Carp

Panic by Lauren Oliver
Rating: 3.5 stars
"She thought all you needed to do - all any of them needed - was to get out. But maybe you carried your demons with you everywhere, the way you carried your shadow."

Let me start by saying that I love Lauren Oliver’s books, especially the Delirium series, so I was excited to read this book. Heather lives in a dead-end town and participates in Panic in order to win the money and leave Carp. Panic is open to all graduating seniors and consists of a series of ‘challenges’ that the players must complete to progress through the game. The synopsis is a little reminiscent of The Hunger Games, but I didn’t find them all that similar once I started reading. Having already been a fan of Oliver’s, I found this book to be a little disappointing. The storyline was pretty good, but I just found the whole story to be slow and it was difficult for me to really get into it. I also didn’t find the characters very relatable and their relationships seemed kind of artificial to me. Things started picking up closer towards the end of the book and that’s when I started to get more interested. Overall, I would recommend this book for someone who is a fan of Lauren Oliver and is maybe just looking for something else to add to their bookshelf.

Lady Jane Grey-Dudley

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows
Rating: 5 stars
"Poor King Edward, now under the ground.. Hacked his lungs out. They've yet to be found."

I have been a fan of all of these authors for quite some time, so I was super excited when I found out they were writing a book together. As soon as I got my copy, I dove right in and I was instantly hooked. I absolutely adored this book. It was funny, witty, and kept me intrigued the entire time. Fans of the Young Adult genre will definitely not be disappointed with this book. Told from three different point of views, My Lady Jane takes the history of the monarchs of England and gives it a surprisingly hilarious and romantic twist. I would not hesitate to recommend this amazing book.
