The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
Rating: 5 stars
More Info
"I was going to kiss him, and I was going to regret it. But at that moment, I couldn't bring myself to care."

Mara Dyer's best friend died in an accident that Mara herself walked away from unharmed and she can't remember anything from that night. This book follows Mara as she unravels the secrets to what happened to her friends that night. Along the way, Mara meets Noah, who helps her unlock the secrets she's keeping from herself. I haven't come across a good mystery novel in quite some time and I was so excited to read this because of the great reviews. It didn't disappoint! I loved the mix of romance, mystery, and overall intrigue of this book and I can't wait to read the next one!

Brigadoon

Doon by Carey Corp & Lorie Langdon
Rating: 5 stars
More Info
"Despite the past disappointments, I wanted the fairy tale-- handsome prince and all."

Doon follows two best friends, Veronica (Vee) and Mackenna (Kenna), as they journey to Alloway, Scotland for the summer. Vee and Kenna soon discover Doon, a magical kingdom that very few have found, along with the kingdom's two handsome princes, and a dark side that could ruin the whole kingdom. This book is full of mystery, intrigue, romance, and keeps you guessing until the very end. What more could you ask for? I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it in a heartbeat. The only thing I didn't like was that the story was told from the point of view of both of the girls, alternating between the two, but you get used to it eventually.
