The Gladers

The Maze Runner by James Dashner
Rating: 5 stars
More Info
This book came highly recommended to me as a huge Hunger Games fan. I’ve been so busy lately and I had so many other books on my list to read that this one kind of got pushed back a few weeks. But, I finally got around to reading it and…whoa. It definitely has some similarities to the Hunger Games, but it has a completely different story line and the terminology is especially different. Once I really got into the story, I couldn’t put it down. I stayed up late reading and had several “book hangovers” (which, if you don’t know, is the headache you get after staying up staring at a book all night). Dashner creates a unique world for his characters and makes sure there is no shortage of conflict for them. The Maze Runner keeps you intrigued throughout the entire book and then the ends leaves you sitting there confused and hopelessly wishing for book teleportation so you can read the second one. I would recommend this book to anyone, not just Hunger Games fans.

Sleepy Hollow: Children of the Revolution

***This is a Blogging for Books review***

Sleepy Hollow by Keith R.A. DeCandido
Rating: 3.5 stars

At first, this book was confusing and I had no idea what was going on. It felt as if I were reading the third book in a series without having read the previous books. As the book progressed I slowly began putting the pieces together. And let me tell you, they were intriguing pieces. Once I really understood the story and the background, I was hooked and I couldn’t stop reading it. I now know that this is also a TV series. Having never seen the show, I have no reference points by which to judge the book, except the book itself. I believe DeCandido weaves a magnificent story that entices readers to the very end. I gave this book a lower rating mostly due to the slow and confusing start, but I would still recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery novel.

Pigeon...

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
Rating: 3.5 Stars

I had a difficult time writing this review because I just couldn’t pinpoint exactly what I wanted to say. I had high hopes for this book because the reviews were so amazing. The book was ok. And by that, I really mean just ok. The book wasn’t so awful that I had to put it down, but it wasn’t good enough for me to want to read the rest of the books. This was one of those extremely predictable books where I had already guessed most of the book by the second chapter. My biggest problem with this book was that Travis and Abby’s relationship moved way too fast for my liking, which I think stems from poor character development. They barely knew each other when they started spouting words of love. Also, the whole on again, off again thing was really starting to get old. So, I would recommend this book if you’re REALLY bored and need a quick read. Though, it might not be so quick if you have a hard time getting through the book…

Cyborgs?

Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Rating: 5 stars

Ok, this book was amazing! I can honestly say that I’ve never read a book with a storyline anything like this one. A lot of books these days tend to be rewrites of other books with different names and thinly-veiled changes to the plot. Meyer tells a completely new story (at least for me) while including subtle connections to well-known fairytales. The book has some slight “Sci-fi” components, but they make the entire story so much better. I was captivated throughout the entire book and I would recommend it in a heartbeat.
